After School

The Dentist

My very first time at the dentist.

Mum said to me, she think's it's time for me to take a visit to the dentist.

" The Dentist ", I said.

" Yes ", Said Mum.

I thought for a moment, " The Dentist ", I said again.

" Yes ", Said Mum.

" On the way to school, will be visiting the dentist to book your first appointment ", she said.

I remember pulling  my mouth down in a uncertain frown.

" What do I need to visit the dentist for, mum ", I said, " I don't have any pains' in my teeth and my teeth don't hurt me, and they seem perfectly shiny to me ", I said.

Mum Said, " Just because your teeth look fine, doesn't mean that there isn't any hidden damages that might hurt you in the future. No " , She Said, " You need to have a regular check-up on your teeth, so we'll begin with your first appointment today ", She Said.

On the way to school

We went into our local community centre. There was everything in there, a Doctors Surgery, a small baby unit, a Library, a Dvd section, a Swimming Bars', a Gym, and a Dental Practise.

Walking down the small corridor, we came to a desk, there sitting at the desk was a lady that looked like a nurse.

I couldn't see above the counter, I was too small.

Mum was leaning over the counter slightly.

There was a lady sitting at the desk, she looked like a nurse, I thought.

Mum Said, " I'm here to book an appointment with the dentist today, please."

The lady replied, " That'll be fine, I can book you in at 4 O ' Clock , 4:30 or 5 O' Clock.

Mum Said, " 4 O' Clock will be fine. "

" That'll be with Meesab ", the lady at the desk, said.

She gave mum  and little card with the date and time on, mum smiled at the lady as we started to leave.

At school

I told some of my friends that I was going to the dentist, some of them said it hurt and others said it didn't, I didn't know what to believe.

I remember watching the clock, all day, thinking about my visit to the dentist.

Then the time came when the school bell rang, I wasn't in a hurry to meet my  mum at the school gates', like every other day, today I took my time, walking through the playground.

Mum was there, where she usually stands , with a big smile and her hand out, as I met her with that same mouth down frown.

" What's the matter ", Mum Said.

" I don't think I want to go to the dentist, mum ", I Said.

" You'll be fine ", Mum Said, with that reassuring smile that she met me with outside school that day.

We took the small walk to the community centre, where we went down the same corridor and met the same lady, who looked like a nurse.
